The result off the recent UK General Election was not what I was hoping for but then again, not so surprising. A strong economy strikes a very big cord with a great many people. But what about those suffering unfair Welfare cuts like the elderly and the disabled? Who speaks for them?
I voted for the Labour Party in the hope that the Welfare cuts would be addressed, I suppose yet more cuts will be announced by the Conservative government, no longer a Coalition government, free to introduce further austerity measures and tax breaks for the wealthy. Is this the kind of country we want to be? Where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer? Our country is becoming an increasingly tough place to live where there seems to be a distinct lack of care and concern for the vulnerable in our society. Is this what is meant by 'proud to be British'?
